Church Saturday or Sunday? Which day should I go according to Christian Bible principles? You might ask "Why would anyone chose to go to church on Saturday? Shouldn't it be Sunday?" Well, you see we are a Bible based church, and the Bible shows God's Sabbath as the Seventh Day, which if you check a dictionary, an encyclopedia or even your calendar, is Saturday. The Sabbath is mentioned throughout the Bible in the Old Testament and in the New Testament. In fact, the Sabbath Commandment is on of God's Ten Commandments. Most people have heard about the Ten Commandments, and most (if not all) Christians believe in them, but not many have read them for themselves from the Bible. They are found in both Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.
We are told to "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy." Not many people keep any day holy any more, little lone the Seventh Day of the Bible. It also says "Six days shall thy labour and do all thy work, But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Here we are told that Sunday through Friday are to be regular work days, but not to do any work on Saturday, nor have anyone work for you, so we all can rest in Jesus and spend time with Him. It is a special day that God created, blessed and made holy for us to spend time with Him and remember that He is our God and Creator (who knows what is best for us). Some think they can choose any day in seven, but God was very clear and specific. Remember how specific He was about what tree not to eat of in the Garden of Eden? He said the Seventh Day, and He meant it. The Bible warns that God's law will appear to have been changed, when in fact it never was.
Then why do so many people go to church on Sunday? Interesting question with many different responses...but none of them are Biblical. There are many sincere, godly people who, for one reason or another go to church on the First Day of the week (Sunday). Several of our members used to go to church on Sunday...but when they studied the Bible, and realized what God said, they chose to change which day they went to church... the day God commands rather than follow traditions of man. Jesus Christ said "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." And Colossians 2:8 warns "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."
